It sometimes feels as though the seasons here are divided into two: Hurricane season and non-hurricane season. In non-hurricane season, you rarely check the weather. In hurricane season, you check it obsessively. Weather is no longer something that decides what you’re doing at the weekend; now it’s potentially life changing.
Transport can be a challenge living on a Rock. On our island, there’s no public transport and only ‘bush mechanics’ to fix your vehicle when it goes wrong. A truck is great because you can throw all your island toys in the back, from bikes to paddleboards. Our truck is both an essential part of our life here, and the bane of our life.
