Miranda Dookran is a writer who originally hails from the twin island republic of Trinidad & Tobago. She is the holder of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and Human Resource Management (Hons) from the University of the West Indies and a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Psychology from Andrews University, Michigan.
Her passion for writing was clearly evident when she won first place in a radio competition in 2005 for a heart wrenching Valentine’s story. She continues to write poetry and short stories on various themes with some of her pieces being published in a Hardware calendar for three consecutive years and in the weekly Catholic News. She is a member of Poetry and Prose in Chaguanas which provides an opportunity for writers to showcase their talents as well as develop the art of writing. In February 2019, Miranda’s first chapbook of poetry entitled, Breeze of Hope was officially launched and it takes the reader on a journey of discovering love, experiencing loss, and rebuilding again against a Caribbean backdrop.
Miranda also possesses considerable working experience in the areas of addiction counseling, victim and witness support, life skills training, teaching, sports administration, and events management. Whilst she enjoys helping people and has done quite a bit of voluntary work over the past eighteen years, it is her burning desire to touch the lives of many through her poetry and short stories.
