I recently had the pleasure of connecting with author Sharon Feanny thanks to our mutual island friend, JetSetSarah. She led us through an energizing yoga class and shared some treats she’d cooked from recipes in this book. The Jerk Almond Pate was so yummy that I already have the recipe bookmarked so I can make some for myself at home!

Sharon was raised in Jamaica and is passionate about sharing the beauty of her island with others. For many years, she’s been hosting yoga retreats and high-vitality cooking workshops on her rock. She has also created her signature Live Fit Detox Programs whose popularity encouraged her to create this cookbook.

Many of the recipes include inventive ways to incorporate healthy tropical ingredients into your everyday meals – from mangoes, pumpkin, coconut, callaloo, pigeon peas, Jerk seasoning, Scotch bonnet sauce, and more!

Readers who will love this book:

Anyone who is looking to make a sustainable change to the way they eat. This is an incredibly accessible cookbook. There aren’t any super confusing or overly complicated recipes in here – this is food for everyday living. The book covers over 100 recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack-time, teatime, and treats. It’s mostly plant-based, though it does include a few recipes for chicken and fish, as the author strives for a realistic balance in her own eating life. There’s also detailed guidance on how to live by the author’s 80-10-10 rule.

Home cooks who love a pretty cookbook. This is a beautiful book to add to your shelf. It will transport you to the tropics through the bright images of the island and the ingredients. It’s a lovely book to peruse and one you’ll no doubt enjoy popping open throughout the day in your own kitchen.

Those who need to eat a gluten free diet. All of the recipes in this book are gluten free, as the author eats a gluten free diet herself.

Chrissann’s home rock in the British Virgin Islands feels bigger to her than it actually is. Though after spending five years on a teensy one acre island, the current 13-mile long rock she’s residing on now IS ginormous, at least by comparison. As with everything in the tropics, it’s all about perspective.

Once upon a time she used to care about things like matching her purse to her pumps but these days, any activities that require a bra and shoes go under careful, is-this-even-worth-it consideration. If island life has taught her anything at all, it’s that few things are more rewarding than time spent in the pool with a cocktail in hand.

As the Editor in Chief of this site, she spends her days working from home with her blue-eyed sidekick, Island Dog Diego, writing, editing, and cultivating content in the hopes of bringing some laughter and lightness to her fellow island souls. She recently published her first children’s book, When You’re a Baby Who Lives on a Rock, and is pretty pumped to share it with all of the island mamas out there. Her days off are typically spent boating, hiking, and meeting up with the neighborhood’s imperious roadside goats, who she shamelessly bribes into friendship. While normalcy was never listed as one of her special skills, Caribbean life may indeed be responsible for new levels of madness. She attributes at least a smidge of her insanity to the amount of time she spends talking to drunk people.

If you’re somehow still reading this and feel inclined to find out more about this “Chrissann” of which we speak, you can also take a gander at her eponymous website or follow her daily escapades on Instagram @womanonarock.
