This Bahamas retreat has been specially designed to provide you with a purposeful mid-year pause to assess where you’re at and where you want to go with your writing and creative pursuits in the second half of the year.
During our time together, you will clear your headspace, find inspiration, and mindfully motivate yourself to pursue your passions with fresh energy and clarity.
We will provide the space for you to unwind in paradise, connect with fellow writers, and find the encouragement you need to head back out into the world invigorated and ready to make some magic with your words!
MAY 18 – 23, 2019
* Spaces are limited to prioritize an intimate group setting *
We will be staying with the gorgeous Governors Harbour Collection estate on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas. Eleuthera is approximately 250 miles east of the Florida coast and 50 miles east of Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas.
Derived from the Greek word for freedom, Eleuthera evokes a sense of spaciousness with its expansive landscape and provides the ideal location to free the mind from creative blocks.
Eleuthera is a low-key hideaway for those looking to truly escape. The pristine beaches beckon time to slow to a snail’s pace. Centrally located Governor’s Harbour is considered the “birthplace of The Bahamas” and is the country’s oldest settlement. The town is poised on a protected harbour and stretches along an elevated ridgeline spilling over to the Atlantic side.
The luxury accommodations are designed to provide you with an immersive Bahamian experience both indoors and out.
Our island cottages are located within walking distance of one of Eleuthera’s top beaches, French Leave Beach, as well as the quaint, historical town of Governor’s Harbour.
During our retreat, we will also be taking several excursions to explore the world famous sites of this dramatically beautiful paradise.
Meet Chrissann
Chrissann is the creator and editor in chief of the humorous island life website, Women Who Live on Rocks.
In 2017, she published her first book for island children called, When You’re a Baby Who Lives on a Rock. She has been featured on the ProBlogger podcast, as well as in several publications in the island/travel/expatriate space. She has recently hopped onto the merry-go-round that is finding an agent/publisher for both her forthcoming book of island essays, as well as her second children’s book.
Yoga first became a part of Chrissann’s jam over 2 decades ago when she was seeking out the easiest possible form of exercise to try so she didn’t feel like a complete couch potato next to her Sporty Spice friends. Who knew it would transform her into a devoted yogi for life? Yoga has captivated her soul and has been an integral part of her mornings ever since and is something she considers invaluable in her creative process. Her no-fail solution to writer’s block? Get into a headstand and just breathe. In 2016, she got her RYT 200 hr certification in Vinyasa yoga.
Over the years, Women Who Live on Rocks has evolved into a fun, engaged community of rock women – whether they physically live on islands or just do in their souls. Beyond the writing, there’s nothing she loves more than connecting with fellow island lovers and bringing people together. She started hosting retreats in 2017 to further this mission and would be so happy to have you join her here.
Because they are inseparable and because he genuinely loves to get his down dog on, her indefatigable sidekick Island Dog Diego will also be joining in for the retreat. So if you need extra snuggles, he’ll be there for ya, babe.
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Mariah Moyle found her way to the Bahamas by way of serendipitous events. She has been island hopping her way around the Bahamas since 2009, settling herself fairly permanently in Nassau in 2016. Always a writer, she began truly cultivating her trade by way of a blog called Out Island Life while she was living on Harbour Island. The blog has grown into an in-depth website to assist those looking to travel to or relocate to the Bahamas. She shares first-hand accounts of her travels and her love for her adopted island home through her writing and social media outlets. She wrote the first edition of Moon Bahamas, an extensive travel guidebook, which is due to be released in March 2019, and she continues to write travel articles for international publications.
Mariah has been practicing yoga for over 15 years and is RYT 200 hr certified in Vinyasa yoga and 20 hr in Yin yoga. She teaches classes at Studio Ohana in Nassau, and at various private clubs and resorts.
Mariah does her best to balance health and well-being through her mindful yoga and meditation practice, and never forgetting she is an island girl at heart, you’ll often find her sipping cold margarita at her favorite beach bar.
