Angelique M.I. Samouilhan

Current Rock of Residence:

Island Girl Since:

Originally Hails From:

South Africa

Born in South Africa from Mauritian parents, Angelique moved back to her parent’s island – the teeny weeny dot-on-a-map island of Mauritius – when she was sixteen.

Adapting to the heat and humidity but still complaining about how hot it is in Summer… and WInter and taking some years to build resistance to tap water disease, while accepting herself to be a favourite blood bank for mosquitos, she discovered the island’s amazing historical stories, sites, and comical island life.

Living in the charming village of Tamarin, on the hottest, driest coast (the west), she worked in management positions in the hospitality sector and then directed herself towards consulting for SME business clients.

She is passionate about animals, co-founded an NGO called PAWS (Protection of Animal Welfare Society) in Mauritius, and enjoys sharing her living space with 6 cats and 2 dogs, all picked up from the streets. Being vegetarian and adapting meals according to what vegetables are available (too much rain, not enough rain, too much wind) can be quite challenging.
