Mary moved to Louisiana in 2010 in search of warmer weather after she retired from her job as a state auditor. Her job involved traveling every day in all kinds of weather – from driving in blizzards, to being on the road in an intense rain storm where she couldn’t even see the front end of her car. After living in Louisiana for four years and finding winters “not so nice”, she decided it was time to look for an island. Having been to St. Maarten three times and St. Thomas once, she knew island life was for her, she just didn’t know where. After much research, she decided on where and began the process of freeing herself from all of life’s belongings that literally tie us down. She got her life down to what would fit in three suitcases, bought a one way ticket, and flew to St. Lucia to meet up with her sister, who was flew in from Wisconsin for a week’s vacation and to help her find a place to live. Having never been to St. Lucia, it was truly an adventure, but she hasn’t regretted it. Getting used to island living, being thousands of miles away from her sister, children, grandchildren, and loads of cousins, etc. has proved to be a challenge, but well worth it.
